12L14 is a resulphurized, rephosphorized screw machine steel with added lead content and is often referred to as a “free machining” steel.  Due to added lead content and high sulphur and phosphorous levels, 12L14 forms a lubricating effect, resulting in extremely fast machining rates. 12L14 produces a smooth, machined surface and because of its low friction component allows for increased tool life.
